Kashmir Solidarity
Day was observed Wednesday to remind the international community to fulfill its
commitment with the Kashmiri people for granting them their right to
self-determination. The day dawned with the special prayers for the progress
and prosperity of Pakistan and early liberation of Occupied Kashmir. One minute
silence was observed at 10.00 am to express solidarity with Kashmiri brethren.
It was a public holiday.
Accoriding to Daily azad kashmir news functions‚ seminars and rallies were held and human
chains would be formed at various bridges connecting Azad Kashmir with
Pakistan. In Muzaffarabad a rally was
organized jointly by various political and social parties despite inclement
weather. The rally started from central press club and culminated at Gharipan
chowk. Addressing the rally speakers called for implementation of UN resolutions
on Kashmir to settle decades-old conflict in accordance with the wishes of
people of Jammu and Kashmir.
They also called upon international community to
implement resolutions on Kashmir passed by United Nations. Similar rallies were
held in Mirpur, Bagh, Rawalakot, Kotli, Bhimber, Sudhnuti, Neelum and Hattian Bala.
In Lahore‚ Forum for Kashmir organized a seminar at the Lahore press club in
which former caretaker Prime Minister Muhammad Mian Soomro was the chief guest.
In Peshawar‚ Yom-e-Yakjehti Kashmir rally was taken out from Hashtnaghri Chowk
to Ashraf Road.

that February 5 is officially observed every year in the country ever since
1990, as the then government decided to internationalize the Kashmir issue to
draw attention of greater part of the world towards its importance and the need
to resolve it. This day is meant to court support for Kashmiris braving India’s

On the occasion of the Kashmir Solidarity day a
group of Members of the National Assembly presented a Memorandum on behalf of
the Chairman, Special Kashmir Committee of the National Assembly,
MaulanaFazl-ur-Rahman to the Secretary General of the United Nations
Organization. The Members of the National Assembly comprising of Mr.
Ijaz-ul-Haq (MNA) and Ch. Iftekhar Nazeer (MNA) presented the Memorandum
jointly.
The Memorandum was received by the Mr. Timo Pakkala, Resident
Representative of the United Nations in his office in Islamabad. The Memorandum
reminded the United Nations about the pending agenda of United Nations since
more than six decades. It further emphasized that the holding of a plebiscite
in the Jammu and Kashmir without further delay in accordance withthe United
Nations Security Council institutions is the only way to resolve the Kashmir
issue.
Accoriding to Daily azad kashmir news The delegation also urged the UN that India may be persuaded to resume
the composite dialogue with Pakistan with a view to peacefully resolvingall
outstanding issues between the two countries including the Jammu and Kashmir
dispute. The delegation impressed upon the Human Rights Council to appoint a
Special Rapporteur on Jammu and Kashmir to check the unabated human rights
violations in the area.
The Members also stressed upon the Secretary General to
activelyencourage, facilitate and support efforts leading to a peaceful
Resolution of Jammu and Kashmir issue in accordance with the relevant Security
Council Resolutions as well as to exercise the mandate entrusted to him by
Charter of the United Nations and under relevant international instruments, to
safeguard the fundamental rights and freedoms of the oppressed Kashmiri people
