SC dismisses contempt notice against PM

Acccording to online newspaper Pakistan ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has struck off contempt of court notice against the Prime Minister (PM) Raja Pervez Ashraf in NRO verdict implementation case. A five-member bench of SC headed by Justice Anwar Zahir Jamali took up the case for hearing Wednesday. The other members of the bench included Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Ejaz Afzal and Justice Ejaz Chaudhry.

 At the inception of the hearing law minister Farooq H Naik told the court that its orders on writing letter to Swiss authorities in consonance with paragraph –178 had been fully complied with. The law minister filed the receipt of the letter with the court which was sent to the Swiss Authorities. He prayed the court to dismiss the contempt of court notice issued against the PM as its orders had been implemented in terms of dispatching of letter. 

The online newspaper Pakistan quoting  that court dismissed the contempt of court notices issued against the PM and federal government after having reviewed all the documents presented by the government. Talking to the media men later law minister said law ministry had sent the letter to Swiss Authorities in line with October, 10 order of apex court and the letter had been received by Attorney General at Switzerland. No criminal case is registered or is pending hearing against the government in Switzerland, he pointed out. 

Writing the letter to the Swiss Authorities has proved that government respects the institutions, he remarked. He went on say “we are grateful to the court for dismissing the notice. The court decision has proved that democracy and justice have emerged victorious today, he added. “We don’t want to destabilize the democracy,”, he held. Government wants democracy flourishes in the country and all the institutions work within their ambit.

 If all the institutions play in their respective crease then prosperity and democracy will thrive in the country, he observed. He stated that letter was not written under any compulsion but it had been written in pursuance of the orders of the court. The former PM Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani had to lose premiership due to non writing the letter but he was not part of the government then, he noted. False cases were being instituted against Gilani if he would give his opinion if it was solicited from him about Gilani, he held-Online.
